A Journey Through Cancer, Music, and Charity

My name is Fredrik Vikström, I’m 58 years old, and music has always held a central place in my life. Throughout my career, I worked as a manager and promoter for both international rock and country artists, as well as well-known Swedish artists.

I was responsible for major events and concerts, experiencing firsthand the power of music. Although I wasn’t an active singer or songwriter, music has always been a source of energy, joy, and inspiration – something I carried with me, whether I was healthy or ill.

A Battle Against Colon Cancer

My life took a dramatic turn when, at the age of 50, I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, with metastases in my liver. I had to undergo several major surgeries, including one where 65-70% of my liver was removed. After four rounds of chemotherapy, the tumors began to spread, and I was eventually placed in palliative care with the prognosis that I had about one year left to live.

But I refused to accept that.

I insisted on continuing treatment and eventually got the chance to try immunotherapy – a treatment that was new at the time and not yet approved in Sweden. Thanks to immunotherapy, I became cancer-free, though only for a brief time. The cancer returned several times, and I had to endure a total of 25 chemotherapy treatments, 50 immunotherapy sessions, and three major surgeries. Over the years, the cancer has come and gone, but my will to live and fight has never wavered. Recently, after my latest scan, I received the incredible news that the cancer has significantly receded, and no metastases are visible. In September, I reached another milestone in my journey – eight years of survival.

Positivity as a Driving Force

Throughout this entire battle, I have always strived to maintain a positive attitude. I set small goals for myself: to get up every morning, dress myself, and take a walk – no matter how I felt. Some days, I could walk several kilometers; other days, barely 100 meters. But the important thing was to always try to do something that moved me forward. I’ve learned that positivity and the will to make something of your life are crucial, especially when facing a disease like cancer.

The Power of Music

Music has always been there for me, and during my illness, I began writing lyrics. It became a way for me to express myself and process everything I was going through. This led to the creation of the Christmas song "Santa Rocking in His Pink Cadillac" by my project, Santa Crusaders. The song isn’t your traditional Christmas carol, but it tells a fun and positive story about a modern Santa who’s traded in Rudolph for a big, pink Cadillac. It’s packed with Christmas spirit, car culture, and joy – a rocking song with a hint of country flair, filled with guitar solos and world-class vocals, all with a message that the truly great things in life are done together. We want to spread holiday cheer and joy with a modern twist, while also raising money for Cancerfonden.

Charity – A Cause Close to My Heart

Over the years, charity has always been an important part of my life. Long before my own cancer diagnosis, I used to help others, including feeding the homeless in Gävle from my pizza truck, which earned me the nickname "the pizza legend." I’ve also raised money for cancer research through private initiatives and supported families with seriously ill children. Helping others has always felt natural to me, which is why it’s so important that "Santa Rocking in His Pink Cadillac" not only spreads holiday joy but also makes a difference by raising money for Cancerfonden.

For me, it’s not just about surviving; it’s about using my story, my experiences, and music to make a difference for others. I hope that this song and my project with Santa Crusaders can bring both joy and hope to everyone who is battling cancer and other hardships in life.

Closing Remarks:

Fredrik Vikström is a person who has never given up, no matter the obstacles. Through music, his positive drive, and his desire to help others, he has not only found a way to keep living but also a way to spread hope to others. With "Santa Rocking in His Pink Cadillac," Fredrik and Santa Crusaders are continuing that fight while spreading joy, hope, and love.
